Information and Map of Oia Village in Santorini

Oia is one of the most beautiful villages on the island of Santorini. The unique architecture, the allure, the famous sunset, the unparalleled caldera views, the volcanic scenery and the nearby attractions make Oia village the best stop or choice of accommodation on the island of Santorini.

Geography & Transportation

Oia is on the north part of Santorini. The distance from the airport is 20 km., the port 19 km. and from the capital of the island, Fira, about 15 km. The village of Oia has a frequent bus/taxi connection with Fira. The average taxi fare is 15 euro, whereas the bus ticket costs around 1 euro.

Oia is a sight and point of interest by itself. Greek Government has declared this unique location as a Protected Settlement. Visitors from all around the world are admiring the local architecture that is combining carved houses into the caldera rock (called hyposkafa) with imposing captain’s mansions scattered across the village. The blue domed churches, the Nautical Museum and the art galleries are among your ‘must’ stops in Oia.
Tip: Do not miss a visit to Ammoudi Bay. The picturesque little harbour with the traditional taverns serving the freshest fish you have ever tasted is among the hidden gems of the island.

Ask the manager of Likno Villas for details about the top activity on the island of Santorini. Traditional boats, sailing yachts and modern catamarans are sailing off daily from Ammoudi bay for cruises around the caldera and the island of Santorini. Usual itineraries pass by or stop at the Hot Springs, the Volcano and the island of Thirassia, where food and drink options are available.
Tip: Pick the sunset time cruises to enjoy the sunset on board.

Wine Tastings

Santorini’s wine is among the most famous local products. Luckily one of the best wineries in Santorini is located close to Likno Villas. The Sigalas Winery organizes wine tastings where, at the beautiful vineyard’s veranda, you will taste the strong characteristics of all Santorini’s wines.

The walking path that sets off at the village of Oia and leads to the capital, Fira, is among the best activities in Santorini. This route lasts approximately 3 hours and will take you on a magical journey on the famous ‘eyebrow of the caldera’. Additionally, starting from other points, such as the village of Pyrgos or Imerovigli and following alternative routes will bring you closer to nature’s beauties.

Due to the volcanic eruption, the shores of Santorini have a unique formation. Black, red and white beaches are found all around the island. In Oia there are various beaches where you can enjoy swimming while being fascinated by the special landscape! Next to Ammoudi bay, you will find Agios Nikolaos church on a very small rocky island that is close to the shore with crystal clear water to swim in and a natural diving spot for the brave ones! Katharos beach is another wonderful choice close to Oia for swimming. It is a very private and quiet spot for romantic moments from dusk till dawn. Baxedes, a beach favoured by the locals, is unorganized but also very peaceful. As for the rest of the island, the most famous beaches are located in the southern part of Santorini: Perivolos, Perissa and Kamari. These are among the best-organized beaches in Santorini with plenty of beach bars, taverns, restaurants, shops and water sport activities.
